Description: Leather stitched in white, wavy pattern tooled in leather. Leather very stiff. Shaped like a purse. Missing closure. Belt loops in back. Wooden cartridge box inside holds 18 cartridges.
Description: Temple toggle iron. Handle wrapped with line and tar. Wooden toggle pin missing. Pin fits through spearhead. When lodged in whale the pin snapped, opening the blade so that it remained inside the skin.

Description: Wooden cap nailed on each end. Marked G. Freeman 1770, H.G. Somes 1870. Donor info - this is the well known Somes Powder horn. Morris Somes was to be the next to sign.
Description: Narrow neck. Design on side - two pistols crossed, stars, eagle carrying spears and shield, two flags, 16 stars, cannon balls and anchor. Similar to those made by the American Flask and Cap Co. during the 1850s.

One rod was held while the other was swung in an arc and brought down on beans, peas etc. Donor info - used by donor’s father, Charles W. Kittredge, to beat out buckwheat and beans. Catalog record card indicates that this may have been donated in 1959.
Description: Long wooden pole with eight iron tines which have turned under tips. Tine held taut with twine. Resembles long rake. Used for catching eels in mud. Donor info - found in Pretty Marsh home of donor.

Description: Brown Bess Musket. Lock missing. Originally a flint lock musket. This type of arm was most widely used by both sides in the American Revolution. Having an effective range of less than a hundred yards, these guns were emplyed in massed fire. The smoke from the first volley obscured the enemy, so subsequent volleys were delivered in the right general directions. In 72 or 76 caliber, the ball was nearly 3/4” in diameter. The gun was converted to a caplock civilian shotgun, probably between 1820 and 1835. .76 caliber. [show more]

Description: Socket bayonet with leather sheath, found on the Higgins farm. Bayonet has triangular blade consistent with Revolutionary-era bayonets for use on Charleville or Brown Bess style muskets. Exact date unknown.
