Description: Top lifts to reveal space for books and pencils. One drawer at top with white knob. Two doors with shelves behind. One drawer at bottom missing pull. Decorative cut base. Lender info - used by Lynam Smith during the 1850s when he was the teacher in the first school in Pretty Marsh, called "The Little Red Schoolhouse." Lyman Smith also taught in other area schools. Donor is a descendant of Smith.
Description: Made of walnut; shaped like a small boat. Sits in frame and rocks. Cradle has swan head and end like a ship’s stern. Frame is carved with flowers on each end and underneath. Donor info - made for Olive Perkins (Mrs. S.W. Smith, Jr.) of Warren, Ohio born August 17, 1858. Mattress made in 1924 for Samuel Smith Wilson. Following info from Samuel Smith Wilson who visited Museum in 1997. Olive Perkins married Judge Smith who rented the house between the Mount Desert Tavern and the Abraham Somes III house in Somesville. This house is no longer standing. She died near 1930. Description: Side of frame resemble logs with leaves in each corner. Frame nailed together. Gilt edge. Glass in frame. Wood backing. The original nails hold wood in place. Picture hanger made of red cord. Cord tied in loop at top, very worn at loop. Photo # 997-933-1103 removed from frame.
Description: 9" long; part unscrews to insert battery; date (ca. 1899) suggested by donor. Metal loop perhaps for hanging or affixing to belt. Found in apartment over old store in Seal Harbor. Marked patent pending.

Description: Heavy box with key lock. Top worn. There are two compartments, one underneath the lid and three smaller compartments in front. Brass lock. Joints nailed. Raw wood inside. This belonged to A.C. Fernald, born 1819 died 1896. Bottle for ink is in front compartment.
Description: Set of two bellows. Both bellows have painted leaves; one has brass tip loose and leather is torn. Leather worn but not brittle on both. Sign of past infestation in wood. Donor Info - from house of Daniel Somes.
Description: Hand stitched with ruffle on edge. Marked in brown ink “Mary A. Tapley”. Number after name not legible. Donor info - pillow case from Somes family of Gloucester, Massachusetts. From 1835 trousseau of Mary A. Tapley. It appears that there are two identical pillowcases with this ID #.

Description: Pair of blue cobalt vases, 8" high. Vases given to Roscoe and Edna Hysom at their first Christmas (1930) by Kate (Lester) Pray, formerly Kate Heath. She and Julia (Mrs. A.C.) Fernald were sisters. Their mother, Judith Somes Heath (m. Capt. Hirshel Heath), had a house and hat shop between Nuttings and Peppers. Judith and Etta Somes Salisbury were sisters. Kate Heath Pray said that these vases were "very old" when she gave them to the Hysoms, parents of donor (Gail Hysom Reiber). [show more]
