Description: Wooden cap nailed on each end. Marked G. Freeman 1770, H.G. Somes 1870. Donor info - this is the well known Somes Powder horn. Morris Somes was to be the next to sign.
Description: Hand sewn saddle bags. Contained paper packages of medicine and old bottles. Belonged to Dr. Kendall Kittredge (1773-1857), first doctor on Mount Desert Island.
Description: Patchwork and embroidered quilt. Embroidered inscription reads, "When this you see / Remember me/ Athalaney Fly/ Mouonldefort [Mount Desert]/ August 26, 1824/ Aged 7 years / 3 months." Athlaney was the daughter of Patty Somes Flye and James Flye; she died at the age of 18 and is buried in the Flye Cemetery in Tremont.

Lender info - used by Lynam Smith during the 1850s when he was the teacher in the first school in Pretty Marsh, called "The Little Red Schoolhouse." Lyman Smith also taught in other area schools. Donor is a descendant of Smith.

Description: One pair of Mrs. Day's IDEAL Baby Shoes, Size 0. Creamcolor. Cream lace edging around front part of opening for foot. Ribbon ties. 3 1/2" long by 1.75" width. Some discoloration but still in good condition. Original box is included. a lock of is hair is also in the box in paper. These shoes belonged to Steven Joseph Carvajal.

Description: Wooden shuttle mounted on board and framed. Also a framed bill from Isaac Somes to Sylvanus Higgins, Mt. Desert, May 29, 1862, for carding and oiling 17 3/4 lbs of wool at 6 cts per lb. In print below shuttle and bill, “From Old Woolen Mill in Somesville owned by Isaac Somes”. On back a pastel of woolen mill by Howe D. Higgins, grandson of Sylvanus. Done on April 21, 1972. Caption on back describes the mill. Note: The pastel painting of the woolen mill has been removed from the back and is located in Flat File #2, Drawer #8 with two other Howe Higgins paintings. Description: This videotape is a history of the home "Cragsyde", aka Kragsyde, a design of Robert Swain Peabody. The video includes historic photographs and commentary, by Wheaton Arnold Holden. This home was built at Manchester-by-the Sea, Massachusetts in 1884 for George Nixon Black, the same owner of Woodlawn House, Ellsworth, Maine. The house was torn down in 1929. The house was also reproduced during the years 2005-6, using original plans, by a family on Swans Island. Other house in video is "La Tourelle", built ca 1930, destroyed 1947.
