Woman and man in doorway, woman and two children standing on steps, three men standing and one seated. Large flagpole to left with “Mt. Desert House, 1888” sign on it. Picket fence running along right side of lawn. Most shutters are open, except for two windows in middle nearest chimney. This print has been attributed to W.H. Ballard, but the photo is probably too early for Ballard to have taken it. Also known as Mount Desert Tavern. [show more]

Two masted schooner at wharf, sails being lowered or raised. Back of black smith’s shop, Thaddeus Somes store, and part of Mount Desert House, to right also visible.
