Description: Cased daguerreotype of Capt. Eben L. Higgins, sea captain of Mount Desert (1807-1900). Calling card of Mrs. Lester E. Pray is enclosed in the case. Note on back of card: "Picture of Capt. Eben L. Higgins, one of the well known Sea Captains of the island in former years." Captain Higgins was the husband of Hannah D. He died on December 28, 1900, at age 92 years, 9 months, and is buried in the Hamilton Station Cemetery in Bar Harbor. [show more]

Reinforced with nails. Dovetail joints. Donor info - this table from log house of Abraham Somes, first settler of Mt. Desert Island. Originally made without nails but with wooden pegs.
