This is a collection which is not arranged particularly and could be better organized in the future. For now, our goal is to access the folder and make note of key names and events in the folder so researchers will be able to find the information they are seeking. We recommend that an inventory of the papers and other items be done at a later date. (Anne Welles) Rudimentary inventory of contents: *obituary of Arthur Charpentier who died on March 17, 1989 who moved to Somesville after he retired from Yale in 1980 *fundraising letter signed by Billy Graham and dated February 1968 *christmas card with a photo of the bridge over the brook by the Selectmen's building in Somesville which signed by "Sandy and Betsy" *newspaper clipping from the Bar Harbor Times dated january 4, 1979 with a story of a Bar Harbor Police Sergeant named Robert Hodgkins Jr. who resigned on one side and an old photograph of the "new Florence Hotel" when fire destroyed it in September of 1918 *newspaper clipping with a picture of the Louisburg Hotel, Bar Harbor which was previously known as the Atlantic House. The name changed in 1887 and became the Lorraine in 1922. *newspaper clipping from the Bar Harbor Times dated December 7, 1978 which has a copy of a photograph of the Florence Hotel which was at the junction of Main St. And Mt. Desert which burned in August of 1918 (2 copies) *newspaper clipping from the Bar Harbor Times dated December 14, 1978 which has a copy of an old photograph of the Newport Hotel which was built in 1871 and was owned by W. M. Roberts *handwritten letter to Addie on her 88th birthday from Betsy *obituary of Sylvia E. Gatcomb who died on March 26, 1997 at the age of 91 *obituary of Stuart Jay Smith of Mount Desert who died on December 16, 1993 at the age of 77 *newspaper photo in a little card with a rectangular hole to allow the photo to be seen; the only identifying clue is the name "Stuart" written in pencil on the outside flap *list of members of the Somesville Fire Company celebrating sixty years of service from 1939-1999 (2 pages long) [show more]
